Hall of Fame
Sam Chase '99 was a four-year letterwinner for the men’s soccer team and a four-time selection to All-ODAC teams.
In his first season with the Blue and White, Chase was voted to the conference’s second team. During that 1995 season he earned a spot in the program’s record book for goals in a game, goals in a season and points in a season. Chase found the back of the net four times against Lynchburg in 1995, which is tied for third-most goals in a game. He led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in scoring with 18 goals and registered 37 total points.
Chase went on to collect three more All-ODAC honors with a pair of all-region laurels by the NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches. He was a Second Team All-Region selection as a sophomore and was named a first teamer his senior year in addition to being voted First Team VaSID All-State. Conference voting named him an honorable mention honoree as a junior and he picked up First Team All-ODAC laurels after his sophomore and senior campaigns.
The forward helped the Generals to a 40-25-3 record and holds the W&L record for career goals (52) and career points (117). Chase’s 18 goals scored during the 1995 campaign are second and his 37 points are fifth in the W&L single-season record book. Chase also holds the record for career game-winning goals (19), and he is the only player in program history with 10+ goals in four consecutive seasons.
Chase remains among the ODAC’s all-time leaders with the third-most career goals and eighth-most career points in conference history.
