About the Facility
Alston Parker Watt Field serves as the home of Washington and Lee University's men's and women's soccer programs and women's lacrosse team. Designed by Clough, Harbour & Associates and completed in 2003, the facility has become one of the premier outdoor competition venues in NCAA Division III and a centerpiece of the university's athletics complex.
The stadium features a natural bermudagrass playing surface supported by a sand-based drainage profile and irrigation system, providing exceptional playability and durability throughout the academic year. Elevated seating for 1,000 spectators, a state-of-the-art press box, modern sound system and stadium lighting installed in 2021 create an outstanding game-day atmosphere for student-athletes and fans alike. The facility also includes removable netting behind each soccer goal, adjacent practice fields, and a shared concessions and restroom facility located between Watt Field and the W&L Turf Field.
In 2025, Watt Field was recognized as the Virginia Sports Field Management Association (VSFMA) Collegiate Field of the Year, honoring it as the top natural-grass collegiate playing surface in the Commonwealth. The award recognizes excellence in field management, safety, maintenance practices and overall playability. The honor followed a remarkable year of recovery and improvement efforts led by W&L's athletics facilities staff, culminating in a surface widely praised by coaches, officials and visiting teams for its consistency, drainage and performance.
The field has hosted numerous conference and national championship events throughout its history, including ODAC championship contests and NCAA Tournament competition. During the 2025 season alone, Watt Field welcomed the ODAC Women's Soccer Championship and six NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament matches across two weekends.
More than two decades after its opening, Alston Parker Watt Field continues to provide Washington and Lee student-athletes with a championship-caliber home venue. Combining award-winning natural grass, outstanding spectator amenities and a history of hosting postseason competition, the facility reflects the university's commitment to providing an exceptional student-athlete experience while supporting success at the conference, regional and national levels.
