About the Facility

The Richard L. Duchossois Athletic and Recreation Center opened in fall 2020, following two years of construction at a cost of nearly $48 million. This 161,000-square-foot facility houses the Washington and Lee Department of Athletics and Physical Education, offering spaces for athletic competition, fitness, recreation, and physical education.

The center includes the Class of 1969 Doremus Gymnasium, originally opened in 1916 as the University’s primary gym. Doremus hosts various events throughout the year, including W&L Wrestling Dual Meets and the W&L Volleyball Invitational to start the fall season.
