About the Facility

The Richard L. Duchossois Athletic and Recreation Center, opened in fall 2020 after two years of construction at a cost of nearly $48 million. The 161,000-square-foot facility houses Washington and Lee’s Department of Athletics and Physical Education, offering spaces for athletic competition, fitness, recreation, and physical education.

The center features the Class of 1969 Doremus Gymnasium, originally opened in 1916 as the university's main gym. Dual wrestling matches are held here, with a spotlight on the mat and fans watching from a suspended walking track, creating an exciting atmosphere.

On the fifth floor, the 4,074-square-foot wrestling room is three times the size of the previous facility. It includes custom-branded padded walls, NCAA Championship mats, and banners recognizing the program's top achievers.

The third floor features personalized locker rooms for the Generals and a dedicated year-round space for the wrestling team.
