Megan Babst ’02 had a fantastic athletics career at Washington and Lee as a member of the basketball and track & field teams.

She earned four letters as a member of the basketball team and after the completion of her junior and senior basketball seasons, she competed for the track & field team during the outdoor season.  She earned two letters in track & field and was the 2001 ODAC Champion in the high jump, clearing a height of 5’0” to claim the title.

On the basketball court, she was a dominant force in the paint, graduating as the holder of nine school records.  Among them were the top marks for blocked shots for a game (6), season (57) and career (193).  She also set records for field goals in a game (15) and season (202), and rebounds in a game (21).

Babst played in 99 career contests, finishing her four seasons with 1,265 points, 925 rebounds, 193 blocks, 131 assists and 119 steals.

As a first-year in 1998-99, Babst averaged a modest 4.5 points and 5.7 rebounds while playing an average of 20.3 minutes per game.  She saw her playing time increase to 28.0 minutes as a sophomore, when she had a breakout year in helping lead the Generals to their first winning season (13-12 overall) in six years.  Following the season, she garnered Honorable Mention All-ODAC laurels.

Babst showed marked improvement again as a junior, receiving Honorable Mention All-ODAC recognition for the second straight year after totaling 17 double-doubles.  She averaged 15.7 points, a career-best 11.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game, while playing an average of 38.0 minutes per game.

As a senior in 2001-02, Babst played an incredible 39.1 minutes per contest, averaging 19.0 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game.  She had 16 double-doubles and three games with at least 30 points, including a career-high 34 points and 12 rebounds in a road win at Emory & Henry and 32 points and 18 rebounds in a home win over Virginia Wesleyan.  Following the season, she was named Second Team All-ODAC, VaSID Second Team All-State and D3Hoops.com Third Team All-South Region.
