    Paul McClure ’05 was a dominating player on the men’s tennis team. He earned four letters during his Washington and Lee career, serving as a team captain for his senior year.
    McClure was the Generals’ No. 1 singles players for his entire playing career, compiling a 64-41 career record against some of the best competi-tion in Division III. He played at a variety of doubles positions and with multiple partners, eventually pairing with David Shay ’06 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles for much of his final three seasons. Overall, he amassed a 58-39 career doubles mark.
    W&L won four Old Dominion Athletic Conference titles during Mc-Clure’s time, advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament each season.He was named First Team All-ODAC in both singles and doubles each of his first three seasons, garnering the ODAC Player of the Year Award after both his sophomore and junior campaigns. McClure was ineligible for all-conference honors as a senior, when an injury kept him from playing in the conference tournament. However, he was honored as the ODAC Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
    McClure also achieved tremendous individual success on the national level, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Singles Championship three times and competing in the NCAA Doubles Championship twice while playing with Shay. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles cham-pionship in 2004, earning All-America accolades in both 2004 and 2005. He and Shay also earned All-America honors in doubles in 2005, the first All-America doubles team for W&L in 14 years.
    McClure was named the W&L Outstanding First-Year Men’s Sport Athlete in 2002 and he also claimed the Pres Brown Award as the top senior men’s sport athlete in 2005.
    His outstanding all-around collegiate career was capped by winning the 2005 Doc Jopson Award as the top men’s sport scholar-athlete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
