Jack Warner was a standout swimmer during his undergraduate days at Washington and Lee and continues as an avid sportsman today.

Warner was a three-year letterwinner in swimming for the Generals and helped the team to the 1938 Southern Conference championship when he placed second in the breaststroke event. The following season he set a school record in the breaststroke.

Warner has remained active in a variety of sports over the years - most notably swimming, tennis and horseback riding. One of his horses, Do-Right, was on the gold medal-winning U.S. Equestrian team in the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City and his horse, Tuscaloosa, won a bronze medal at the Montreal Olympics. Warner was honored in 1989 by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame with the Alabama Distinguished Sportsman Award.

Long a friend to W&L, Warner served on the Board of Trustees from 1969 to 1983. Warner was also a significant contributor to the addition of Doremus Gymnasium and the new facility was formally dedicated as the Jonathan Westervelt Warner Athletic Center in 1977.
