Kelly Taffe ’04 was a tremendous two-sport athlete for the Generals, competing in field hockey and lacrosse.
She earned four letters in each sport and was a team captain for both squads during her junior and senior seasons. She graduated holding the school’s most prestigious records for both sports, scoring more goals and totaling more points than any player in either program’s history.
As a forward in field hockey, she helped usher the program into its first varsity season in 2000 by leading the team with three goals and one assist. By her third season in 2002, the Generals had produced their first winning season and advanced to the ODAC Tournament Semifinals.
All told, Taffe played in 62 of a possible 63 games over her field hockey career, totaling 34 goals and four assists for 72 points. A three-time All-ODAC honoree, she notched a program-record 19 goals as a senior en route to earning First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-State and Second Team All-Region accolades.
As an attacker in lacrosse, she played in all 73 games over her four seasons and finished with 238 points on 182 goals and 56 assists. She also tallied 136 ground balls, 49 caused turnovers and 46 draw controls. She earned All-ODAC honors three times, including first team accolades each of her final two seasons when she also garnered First Team All-Region laurels.
A 2004 North-South All-Star and Second Team All-American, Taffe helped lead the Generals to a 56-17 overall record, three ODAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament berths during her four seasons.
The 2001 W&L Outstanding First-Year Female Athlete Award recipient, Taffe capped her career with the 2004 Pres Brown Award as the most valuable senior female athlete at W&L.
