Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee baseball team
dropped a 4-1 decision to Ferrum College in the Generals'
regular-season finale at Cap'n Dick Smith Field on Tuesday
evening.
Ferrum (22-13) senior Brian Mays (Eagle Rock, Va./James River)
limited the Generals (12-17) to just eight hits (7 singles) and one
walk in picking up the complete-game win (6-3). He walked one and
struck out eight.
Sophomore
Jody Davis (McLean, Va./Langley) took the loss (1-4) for
W&L as he allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk with two
strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
Ferrum jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI
single by first-year designated hitter Chris Beacom (Fairfax,
Va./Paul VI). The Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 in the third
inning as junior first baseman Justin Franklin (Appomattox,
Va./Appomattox) drove in senior second baseman Jason Butterworth
(Crozet, Va./Western Albermarle) with a single.
In the fifth inning, first-year shortstop
Jonathan Stutts
(Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) pulled W&L to within
2-1 when he drove in first-year leftfielder
George Youmans
(Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) with a single, but Ferrum
tallied single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to preserve the
win.
Sophomore centerfielder
Mike Decembrino (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury)
led W&L at the plate as he was 2-for-4. Senior designated
hitter
Will Lewis (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) finished 1-for-3 with
a double, while senior second baseman
John Ditore (Seattle,
Wash./Bishop Blanchet) and first-year second baseman
Chris Nault
(Atlanta, Ga./Riverwood) were both 1-for-2.
Franklin finished 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead the Panthers.
Butterworth was 2-for-5 with a run scored and Beacom was 2-for-5
with an RBI and a run scored.
The Generals return to action on Thursday on day one of the ODAC
Tournament. The Generals, the tournament's No. 6 seed, will
take on Top-seeded Bridgewater at 11:00 am at City Stadium in
Lynchburg.
