LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University baseball team earned two D3baseball.com All-Region citations while first-year Alex Caywood was named Region 6 Rookie of the Year, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Caywood earned Rookie of the Year honors, becoming the first General in program history to earn the award while garnering Second Team honors. Junior Nathan DeWitte was selected to the First Team as well, marking the first First Team nod since Danny Devereux '19 in 2017. This also ties the program record for selections joining the 2013 and 2023 squads.

Caywood, a Chantilly, Va., native, was named the Region 6 Rookie of the Year and earned his first All-Region honor with a Second Team selection. He also became just the second first-year player in program history to earn First Team All-Conference honors after leading the team with a .425 batting average and a 1.195 OPS across 127 plate appearances while appearing in all 36 games.

Caywood totaled 54 hits, 19 doubles, two triples, and one home run while driving in 34 runs and drawing 30 walks — the second-most walks in program history. Nationally, he ranked ninth in Division III in doubles and 10th in on-base percentage (.565). He also finished among the ODAC leaders in several categories, tying for the conference lead in doubles while ranking second in batting average and on-base percentage, third in OPS, sixth in runs scored (51), 14th in walks, and 18th in hits. Caywood posted a team-best 20-game hitting streak and reached base safely in every game this season.

DeWitte, an Alexandria, Va., native, earned his first All-Region selection following a career year at the plate and on the mound for the Blue and White. He was named a First Team All-ODAC selection after ranking second on the team with a .385 batting average and a .965 OPS while leading the squad with 55 hits.
At the plate, DeWitte recorded six doubles, two triples, and two home runs while driving in 25 runs and drawing 24 walks. He ranked ninth in the ODAC in runs scored (50), 13th in batting average, and 15th in hits. On the mound, DeWitte made 15 appearances, including five starts, and pitched 38.2 innings while striking out a career-high 31 batters.

The Generals finished their 2026 campaign with a 21-14-1 overall record with a 10-9-1 record in conference play. They reached the ODAC Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons while posting the most wins since 2017.
