Box Score BRIDEWATER, Va. -- Bridgewater's Jake Edwards doubled with
one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to score
Mitchell Edwards and give the Eagles a 4-3 win over the Washington
and Lee baseball team on Wednesday afternoon at Jopson Field.
W&L (10-12, 6-6) took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the
fifth and sixth innings as sophomore C.J. Thompson (Ponte Vedra
Beach, Fla./Nease) drove in a run with a groundout and sophomore
centerfielder Mike Decembrino (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) scored on a
Bridgewater throwing error.
The Eagles (13-12, 9-2) tied it at 2-2 with a pair of runs in
the bottom of the sixth inning before the Generals took a
short-lived 3-2 lead on a solo homerun by senior catcher Will Lewis
(Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) in the top of the eighth.
BC once again tied it in the bottom of the frame on an RBI
double by Andrew Hacker to set up Edwards' heroics in the
extra frame.
Sophomore Roger Strong (Spencerport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit)
started for the Generals and limited the Eagles to just two runs on
seven hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Junior Gregg Laswell (Houston, Texas/Memorial) took the loss as he
surrendered two runs on hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings
of work.
Lewis led W&L with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate. He drove
in one run and scored one as well. First-year Jonathan Stutts
(Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) was also 2-for-4 and
Decembrino finished with one hit in three a-bats with a run scored.
Drew Elkins started for BC and went the distance. He allowed
three runs (2 earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts in 10.0
innings.
Brett Howell finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI to
lead Bridgewater. Andy Chrismer also finished 2-for-5 with a run
scored and Edwards was 2-for-4 with two runs.
W&L returns to action on Saturday when it hosts
Randolph-Macon in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
