Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The number two seed Washington and Lee
women's soccer team would record two goals in the second half
as they topped seventh-seeded Guilford, 2-0, in the quarterfinal
match of the ODAC women's soccer tournament on Saturday
afternoon at Watt Field.
Neither team recorded a goal in the first half, as the Generals
(15-1-2) led the Quakers (7-12-1) in both shots, 9-0, and corner
kicks, 8-0. W&L struck early in the second half, with
first-year midfielder Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal
School of Acadiana) connecting off a pass from fellow first-year
midfielder Hannah Sackfield (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) just 37
seconds in to put the Generals up 1-0. Sophomore forward Allie
Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) would add a
marker in the 76th minute off a helper from sophomore forward Anne
Masich (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) to secure the 2-0
victory.
Sophomore goalie Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all
90 minutes for the Generals, recording one save en route to the
shutout. Guilford sophomore goalie Kat Adams (Oak Island,
N.C./South Brunswick) also played the duration, allowing two goals
while recording seven saves.
The Generals will return to action on Wednesday as they host number
three seed Lynchburg College in the ODAC semifinals at Watt Field.
Lynchburg advanced to the semis after defeating Randolph-Macon,
2-0, on Saturday.
