Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 2 Generals swarm Shenandoah to keep perfect road record intact

WINCHESTER, Va. – The second-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team scored twice in both halves on Tuesday evening to post a 4-1 win at Shenandoah.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Elizabeth Zimmerman got the Generals (11-0-1, 6-0-0 ODAC) on the board in the 16th minute on a well-placed shot from the right side of the box and inside the left post.
  • About 90 seconds later, junior Megan Zimmerman took control of a pass from senior Emily Burke to beat the Shenandoah (9-4, 3-3 ODAC) keeper at the near post. Zimmerman faked a shot and played the ball back to her left before sliding the ball in.
  • In the 48th minute, Burke tried her luck from outside the box on the right side, and her attempt took a deflection off the Hornets defender to freeze the keeper and make it a 3-0 game.
  • The Hornets got their goal in the 62nd minute when McKenna Newcome finished from close range. Kirklyn Wilson found Newcome on the back post, where Newcome lunged for the ball and put it in.
  • Junior Aubrey Dunbar had the final tally of the game in the 86th minute. She received a pass from E. Zimmerman and spun off a defender before firing with her left foot to find the back of the net.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Burke and E. Zimmerman led the offense with a goal and assist each. M. Zimmerman is up to a team-high 26 points after her team-leading 10th goal of the season, while Dunbar's goal was her first of the year.
  • Burke paced all Generals with seven shots, while she and Dunbar put three shots on goal apiece. In total, 11 different Generals combined for 27 shots.
  • Newcome highlighted the Shenandoah offense with her 11th goal of the season. She took a game-high four shots and put four on goal. Wilson and Lauren Duffy both had an assist on Newcome's goal.
  • Molly Donaldson made nine saves in the Shenandoah goal, while junior Kate McEnroe stopped a season-high six shots.
