W&L Women's Soccer Rebounds Against Hornets

LEXINGTON, Va.. -- The Washington and Lee Women's Soccer Team rebounded from a season opening loss to Emory with a 7-0 win over Shenandoah (1-3) on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) and junior midfielder Lindsay Williams (Atlanta, Ga./Phillips Academy (Mass)) led the Generals (1-1) with two goals apiece.

W&L jumped ahead early with a goal from junior forward Margaret-Hunter Turner (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) just 13:40 into the match. Williams then stepped into the spotlight scoring in the 23rd minute and then again in the 36th minute to propel the Generals to a 3-0 halftime lead. Bidwell opened the second half with her two goals in a span of just a minute and a half.

With the Generals leading 5-0 midway through the second half, freshman forward Ruth Hill Yeilding (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) laced a shot past Shenandoah goalkeeper Nicole Leisinger for her first collegiate goal. Junior midfielder Courtney Nolan (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) rounded out the scoring with a shot from about 30 yards out with 25 minutes remaining. The Generals outshot the Hornets 17-3. Senior forward Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) collected assists on each of Bidwell's goals. Turner also added two assists.

The Generals return to action Thursday against Hollins University in Roanoke. Hollins will be W&L's first ODAC opponent of the season. Gametime is set for 4:00 pm.
