LEXINGTON, VA -- Washington and Lee's women's soccer team was scored upon for the first time all season on Saturday, but manage to hold off ODAC rival Guilford, 4-3 at Liberty Hall Fields to remain undefeated.
Senior forward Karin Treese (Frederick, Md./ Thomas Johnson) put the Generals on the board first 5:56 into the game off of a header.
Thirty-two seconds later, Treese scored again. This time, she scored from 30 yards out to give the Generals a 2-0 lead. Guilford's Ingrid Werge (Fort Collins, Col./ Eleanor Roosevelt) became the first opponent to score on W&L this season when she scored at the 8:12 mark. Amy Evans (New Bern, N.C./ New Bern) of Guilford tied the game at the 35:30 mark. The teams went into halftime tied at two.
W&L Freshman midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./ Escambia) scored at the 50:53 mark to regain the lead for the Generals. Sophomore forward Lindsay Williams (Atlanta, Ga./ Phillips Academy) scored her first goal of the season at the 73:57 mark to give the Generals an insurace goal that they needed. Guilford's Alison Schott (Lyons, N.Y./ Lyons) drew the Quakers with 4-3 by scoring on a penalty kick at the 76:23 mark, but the Quakers could get no closer, as the Generals came out victorious, 4-3.
W&L will host arch-rival Roanoke on Thursday afternoon at Liberty Hall Fields. Kick-off is at 4:00.
