LEXINGTON, Va. – The sixth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance on Senior Day, defeating Virginia Wesleyan, 25-2, on Saturday afternoon at Alston Parker Watt Field.
The Generals (9-2, 4-0 ODAC) scored the first 15 goals of the contest and saw contributions throughout the lineup, celebrating seniors Grace Kim, Sophie Edwards, Ella Dutton, Betty Boatwright, Emma Marsh, Christina Petras, Carmen Tosi, and Iman Haddad with a commanding conference victory over the Marlins (4-7, 0-4 ODAC).
The group has been instrumental in sustaining the program's success, compiling a 63-13 record over the past four seasons while capturing three ODAC Championships and advancing to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight run and two trips to the Round of 16. Saturday's performance served as a fitting tribute, as the seniors helped lead a dominant effort in their final regular-season home game.
Game Summary
Washington and Lee wasted no time taking control, scoring 10 goals in the opening 13 minutes, highlighted by Emma Marsh's opening tally at 14:13. The Generals continued to build momentum behind a balanced attack, with goals from Lara Baki, Kelly Polacek and Grace Kim fueling a 10-0 first-quarter lead.
The Generals extended the run into the second quarter, adding five more goals—including back-to-back man-up scores from Polacek and Sophie Edwards—to build a 15-0 advantage. Virginia Wesleyan broke through just before halftime, but W&L carried a 15-1 lead into the break.
Washington and Lee maintained control in the second half, outscoring the Marlins 10-1 over the final 30 minutes. Betty Boatwright and Hannah Van Son helped pace a strong third quarter, while six different players scored in the fourth to cap the 25-2 victory.
