LEXINGTON, Va. – The sixth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team used a dominant second-half performance to defeat Roanoke, 15-5, on Wednesday evening at Alston Parker Watt Field.
The Generals (10-2, 5-0 ODAC) received four hat tricks and broke open a one-goal game at halftime with a decisive third-quarter surge to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Game Summary
Washington and Lee struck quickly, as Lara Baki converted a player-down goal just 28 seconds in. After Roanoke answered, Baki regained the lead and Katie Reed followed with two goals, including a player-up score, to push W&L ahead 4-1 after one.
Roanoke responded in the second, scoring three of the first four goals to cut the deficit to one. Sophie Edwards halted the run, and the Generals closed the half with goals from Hannah Van Son and Baki—her second player-down tally—to take a 7-4 lead into the break.
W&L took control in the third. Betty Boatwright scored three goals in under two minutes to spark a decisive run, and Edwards added another to extend the lead to 11-4.
The Generals maintained control in the fourth, as Edwards completed her hat trick and Grace Kim and Reed added insurance goals. Nora Hamilton capped the scoring late as W&L secured the 15-5 victory.
Roanoke was led by Sydney Winpigler with two goals, including a key score during a second-quarter run that brought the Maroons within one. Zoe Blair, Emmie Verville, and Maddie McDonald each added a goal.
