Haddad’s Late Heroics Lift No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Past No. 7 Gettysburg, 11-10

LEXINGTON, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team secured a signature non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon, edging fourth-ranked Gettysburg, 11-10, at Alston Parker Watt Field.

The Generals (8-2) used a pivotal third-quarter run and a clutch defensive stand in the final minutes, as goalkeeper Iman Haddad made several key saves late to preserve the win over the Bullets (4-4).

Game Summary

Washington and Lee struck first at 12:13 in the opening quarter as Lara Baki finished off a feed from Kelly Polacek, but Gettysburg answered just 33 seconds later to spark an early back-and-forth. After Katie Reed gave W&L a 2-1 edge at 11:21, the Bullets seized momentum with a 3-0 run, taking a 4-2 lead late in the period.

Baki stopped the surge with a goal at 1:08, and the Generals carried that energy into the second quarter. Grace Kim and Sophie Edwards scored just over a minute apart (11:43, 10:39) to give W&L a 5-4 advantage, but Gettysburg responded again, briefly reclaiming the lead at 6-5.

Washington and Lee closed the half with composure, as Baki tied the game at 6-6 before Kim added an unassisted goal at 2:37 to send the Generals into halftime ahead, 7-6.

The Generals took control in the third quarter with a decisive 3-0 run. Betty Boatwright opened the half with a pair of goals, including a free-position finish, and Reed added a man-up goal at 2:26 to extend the lead to 10-6.

Gettysburg mounted one final push in the fourth, scoring three goals in a 2:23 span (8:59–6:36) to cut the deficit to one. Hannah Van Son responded with a critical goal at 3:52 to push the lead back to two, but the Bullets answered again at 1:32 to make it 11-10.
