YORK, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team delivered a dramatic comeback victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating fifth-ranked York (Pa.), 13-12, in overtime in a non-conference showdown.
The Generals (6-2) erased a two-goal deficit in the final minute of regulation and completed the rally in overtime behind Hannah Van Son's game-winning goal, handing the Spartans (5-2) a narrow defeat in a matchup between nationally ranked programs.
Game Summary
York controlled much of the early action, taking a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and carrying a 9-7 advantage into halftime. The Spartans continued to pressure the Generals in the third quarter thanks to five unanswered goals stretching from 00:20 in the third until 2:31 in the fourth.
Trailing 12-10 late in the fourth quarter, W&L mounted its comeback when Hannah Van Son scored with under a minute remaining to cut the deficit to one. Moments later, Lara Baki found the equalizer to force overtime and complete the late rally.
In the extra stanza, the Generals won the decisive draw and capitalized on the opportunity, as Van Son delivered the game-winning goal at 4:27 to secure the 13-12 victory.
