No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Downs Randolph-Macon, 13-9

ASHLAND, Va. – The tenth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team continued Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a 13-9 victory over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday evening at Day Field. The Generals improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in ODAC action, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Washington and Lee used a seven-goal first quarter to build an early cushion and never trailed, holding off a second-quarter push from Randolph-Macon before pulling away again in the second half.

Game Summary

The Generals came out firing, scoring twice in the opening 30 seconds and building a 7-4 lead after the first quarter behind a balanced offensive attack led by Lara Baki and Grace Kim.

Randolph-Macon responded in the second quarter, scoring three straight goals to tie the game at 7-7 with 8:26 remaining in the half. Washington and Lee answered with back-to-back unassisted goals from Kelly Polacek to regain control and take a 9-7 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to one, but the Generals responded again with goals from Carleigh Taylor and Baki to extend the lead to 11-8 entering the fourth.

Washington and Lee maintained control down the stretch, limiting Randolph-Macon to just one goal in the final quarter while adding scores from Emma Marsh and Polacek to secure the 13-9 victory.

Individual W&L Performances

  • Lara Baki led all players with seven points on four goals and three assists, adding nine shots.
  • Kelly Polacek finished with three goals, including two key scores late in the second quarter.
  • Grace Kim added two goals and three ground balls.
  • Hannah Van Son recorded two goals, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
  • Emma Marsh totaled one goal and one assist, along with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Carleigh Taylor scored once and contributed across the field with a caused turnover and a draw control.
  • Betty Boatwright led the team with five draw controls.
  • Iman Haddad earned the win in goal, making five saves over 60 minutes.

  • Washington and Lee outshot Randolph-Macon, 32-18, including a 24-12 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Generals controlled possession with a 15-9 advantage in draw controls.
  • W&L held a 17-10 edge in ground balls.
