GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Tuesday afternoon, rolling past Guilford College, 24-1, at Appenzeller Field.
The Generals (1-1, 1-0 ODAC) scored 11 goals in the first quarter and never looked back, using a balanced offensive attack to secure their first conference victory of the young 2026 season. W&L saw 18 different players find the back of the net and held the Quakers (0-2, 0-1 ODAC) to just two total shots on the afternoon.

Betsy Clarke. The Generals continued to dominate possession, winning draw controls and capitalizing in transition to build an 11-0 lead after the first quarter.
W&L added four more goals in the second period, including a free-position finish by
Ava Tintle and scores from
Grace Kim and
Carleigh Taylor, to take a commanding 15-0 halftime advantage.
The Generals extended the margin with four third-quarter goals and five more in the fourth. Guilford broke through at the 4:45 mark of the final frame on an unassisted goal by Emma Garland, but W&L answered twice more to close the scoring.
Individual Performances
- Sophie Edwards led all scorers with three goals and one assist, helping pace the early offensive surge.
- Betsy Clarke, Hannah Van Son, Payton Haley, and Alexandra Simon each scored twice.
- Kelly Polacek dished out a game-high three assists and added a goal, while Nora Hamilton recorded two assists and a goal.
- Payton Haley stuffed the stat sheet with two goals, one assist, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
- W&L goalkeepers Iman Haddad, Gabbi Bici, and Hailey Sarno combined to allow just one goal, with Haddad earning the win in the opening quarter.
