LEXINGTON, Va. – The 11th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team fell to No. 2 Tufts, 17-6, on Friday night at Watt Field in a highly anticipated non-conference matchup, marking the third consecutive season the two teams have faced off.
The Generals (7-4) struggled to contain the high-powered Jumbos (6-0), who opened the game on a 5-0 run and never trailed. However, W&L responded with a strong second-quarter effort, limiting Tufts to its lowest offensive output and narrowest goal differential of the 2025 season.
Game Summary
Tufts wasted no time asserting control, scoring five unanswered goals in the first quarter, including two from Allie Zorn and Ella Lesperance. W&L was held scoreless in the opening period and did not register its first goal until 5:07 in the second quarter, when
Lara Baki found the back of the net to make it 6-1.
The Jumbos quickly countered with three straight goals in a 2:06 span, extending their lead to 9-1.
Claire Horner provided a late spark for W&L, netting a free-position goal (1:18, second quarter) to trim the deficit to 9-2 at halftime.
Tufts pulled away in the third, scoring four straight goals to take a 13-4 lead before W&L answered with goals from
Sophie Edwards (8:08) and
Hannah Van Son (7:32). However, the Jumbos never let the Generals build momentum, outscoring W&L 4-2 in the final quarter to close out the win.
