LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 65-52 loss against Shenandoah in Holekamp Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Hornets (7-13, 2-9 ODAC) progressively built up a 19-8 lead through 12 minutes of game time, before a 14-5 run from the Generals (6-13, 4-6 ODAC) brought them back within two points with a minute left in the half. During that run, W&L made 6-of-7 shots from the field and got highs of five points each from first-year
Connor Amorosi and junior
A.J. Thomas. Shenandoah's Dorian Davis hit a layup with 35 seconds left, before senior
Thomas Feigin sent the Generals into the locker room down just one point with a triple with seven seconds left.
A slow start to the second half saw a
Jackson Ransom jumper fall as the first field goal of the second half at the 17:24 mark. His jumper gave the Generals their first lead of the game and, after the Hornets went back in front, first-year
Zack Duncan nailed a three at the 14:43 mark for another one-point W&L lead.
The Hornets began to pull away after that with a 24-6 run over the next 10:19 for a 56-39 lead with 4:24 left to play. They made 7-of-14 shots overall and 4-of-7 from outside, while limiting the Blue and White to 2-for-12. Insufficient time remained for the Generals to mount a comeback, but they finished strong with 13 points over the final 4:18 on 5-of-7 shooting and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Amorosi and Thomas posted W&L highs of 11 points each in the game, and they combined for six rebounds. Duncan scored seven points for the Blue and White, and Feigin and junior
