W&L Men's Basketball Italy Trip 2026

W&L Men's Basketball set for touring, three games in Italy

7/22/2026 2:00:00 PM

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's basketball team will be embarking to Italy for a 10-day journey that will include three games against Italian clubs and touring various cities.

The Generals will depart for Italy on Thursday, August 6, and return to Lexington on August 15, with stops in Rome, Montecatini Terme, Milan and Lake Como.

"We are excited and grateful to be heading on a trip to Italy this summer," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris McHugh '09. "We want to thank the W&L men's basketball alumni for making this trip possible. It is a great opportunity to build chemistry and relationships while learning about Italian history and culture. We also will improve from three basketball games against Italian clubs. After our previous international trip, we went to the ODAC Finals, and this is the foundation for another run."

The team will land in Rome on the morning of August 7 and tour various areas, including Vatican City museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica before the Generals will take on Stella Azzurra Academy on August 8 in their first of three games. The team will then take in the sights and history of the Roman Coliseum and Forums the following day, before departing for Tuscany and Montecatini Terme.

After touring around Florence on August 10, the Generals will battle Pro Camp in their second game of the trip in Montecatini Terme. That game precedes an additional two days of touring and sight-seeing before the team heads to Milan and Lake Como, where they will face-off against the Dream Team All-Stars on August 13 for the final game of the trip.

The Generals will have one final day of touring on August 14, which will include a guided boat tour of Lake Como, before the team heads home on August 15. In the their three games, the Generals will be led on the court by 2026-27 team captains Connor Amorosi '28 and Conor Roberton '27, who had the following remarks regarding the trip:
  • Amorosi: We are really looking forward to this unique experience. We are grateful to have been given an opportunity not only to become better basketball players by playing against professional competition in Italy, but also to bond and build camaraderie as we prepare for the upcoming season.

  • Roberton: I am looking forward to growing as a team on and off the court. We can't express how grateful we are for this opportunity!
