Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

W&L earns 20th consecutive ODAC win, eighth straight overall at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A goal in the 26th minute from sophomore Elizabeth Zimmerman held up as the winner, as the No. 9 Washington and Lee women's soccer team defeated Lynchburg, 1-0, on Saturday evening for the team's 20th consecutive ODAC victory and eighth straight overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Generals (12-2-1, 8-0-0 ODAC) held the upper hand from the opening kick-off, as they owned the first eight shot attempts of the game across the first 31 minutes of play.
  • W&L got its goal on its seventh shot attempt of the first half, when Zimmerman created space from a defender on the left side and scored with her left foot across the frame of goal.
  • By the 54th minute, the Generals held a 13-2 advantage in total shots, but the Hornets found a rhythm in the second half, and got four shots off to none for W&L across the next 17 minutes. Three were on goal, but each was stopped by sophomore Kate McEnroe.
  • The Generals were good for two more shots in the final 11 minutes, while limiting the Hornets to just one additional attempt over the last 19 minutes of action. McEnroe, again, made a save in the 89th minute to preserve the shutout.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Zimmerman's goal in the 26th minute put her into a tie with her two sisters for the team lead at five goals this season. She also leads the team outright in points (16), assists (6) and goal contributions (11 – 5g, 6a).
  • McEnroe totaled six saves to post her sixth shutout of the season and her third consecutive clean sheet. It was her fourth game with at least six saves this season and the sixth with at least five.
  • Senior Sarah Zimmerman led the Generals with six shot attempts and two on goal, while Elizabeth ended the night with five attempts and three on goal.
  • Rylee Wampler paced the Hornets with two shots, and she put both attempts on goal. Kate Shepherd made five saves in the losing effort across all 90 minutes in goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Generals' defense and goalkeeping unit has now strung together six consecutive shutouts and have 10 clean sheets this season. They have not allowed a goal over the last 574:01.
  • W&L's win streak is now at eight after Saturday's result, with an overall ODAC winning streak of 20 games dating back to 2023. The Generals also have six wins in their last six road contests.
  • After Saturday's win, the Generals are now just one win away from clinching the top seed in this year's ODAC Tournament as well as the conference's regular season title. Randolph-Macon holds in second in the conference table six points back of the Generals, but the Blue and White own the head-to-head tiebreaker.
