Severe weather suspends No. 7 W&L vs. William Smith in first half

9/4/2026 7:54:00 PM

LEXINGTON, Va. – Severe weather forced the suspension of Friday evening's women's soccer game between No. 7 Washington and Lee and William Smith.

With 20:37 remaining in the first half, teams were sent to their respective locker rooms for a lightning delay. Lightning and severe rain showers persisted until roughly 7:00 p.m. At that point, both teams agreed on suspending the game. No date or time to resume the contest has been announced.

Before play was suspended, the Generals built a 2-0 lead behind a pair of goals from Megan Zimmerman. Juniors Avery Hannah and Elizabeth Zimmerman had one assist each, while junior Kate McEnroe had a save in the opening seconds to keep the Herons off the board.

If the game is resumed this season, play will continue with 20:37 remaining in the first half and W&L leading, 2-0. Additional information will be posted on generalssports.com when it becomes available.
