ASHLAND, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team recorded its 19th consecutive ODAC win on Wednesday evening with a 2-0 victory at Randolph-Macon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Generals (11-2-1, 7-0-0 ODAC) wasted little time in taking a lead, when sophomore Elizabeth Zimmerman scored in just the third minute. A ball played in to Zimmerman was loose momentarily, but she recovered and scored from just inside the 18.
- W&L continued to control the pace of play throughout the first half, getting 11 shots off to just three from the Yellow Jackets (7-5-2, 5-1-0 ODAC).
- The Generals kept up the pressure in the second half and doubled the lead in the 57th minute. Senior Bryn Bissinger played a long pass from the team's defensive third up to Helen Otteni, who one-timed a right-footed shot inside the box and past the diving keeper.
- Sophomore goalie Kate McEnroe was forced to make two saves in the second half, but none over the final 16 minutes of play as the W&L defense kept the Yellow Jackets locked down.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Zimmerman's goal was her fourth of the season and puts her atop the team leaderboard for points (14). Otteni's goal was also her fourth of the year. The duo combined for seven shots and four on goal.
- Bissinger tallied her fifth assist of the season, second on the team (E. Zimmerman).
- Sophomore Megan Zimmerman paced the W&L offense with six shots, followed by Otteni's four and three attempts each from three other players.
- McEnroe totaled three saves on the night to get her fifth shutout of the season. Erin Morris stopped nine shots in the RMC goal across the duration of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bissinger's assist was the 22nd of her career, which ties Katie Rossi '15 for the sixth most in program history. Bissinger would tie Holley Beasley '15 and Karin Treese '99 for fourth place with her next assist.
