No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Wraps Up League's 2024 Slate Unblemished at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team blanked Guilford College 20-0 in the conference's regular season finale on Wednesday evening. 

The Blue and White completed a perfect 9-0 league slate for the 11th consecutive season and an overall record of 13-3 going into senior day weekend.

The Generals scored 11 times in the opening stanza quarter and registered nine tallies in the remaining three quarters. While the offense was firing on all cylinders, the defense held the Quakers (5-10, 2-7 ODAC) to five shots for the entirety of the contest. 

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Generals outshot GC 33-5 and put 27 attempts on frame. 
  • The Blue and White won the 50-50 ball battle by scooping up 21-of-31 ground balls and had a 21-2 advantage on the draw circle. 
  • W&L successfully cleared 11-of-12 attempts and limited Guilford to 9-of-16 clears. 
  • The W&L defense and ride caused 10 of GC's 15 turnovers. 

W&L LEADERS 

  • Twelve different players recorded points for W&L and there were 11 different goal-scorers in today's win. 
  • Senior goalie Caroline Kranich did not see a shot on goal in her 15 minutes of action to start the day. 
  • Sophomore Iman Haddad recorded three stops in 45 minutes of playing time and saw five shots from the Quakers.
  • Julia Thomson and Hanna Bishop led the Generals with five points each.
  • Alex Petras added four points and Sophie Edwards and Walker McKnight contributed three points each. 
  • Defender Eugenie Rovegno recorded six draw controls.

GC LEADERS

  • Maggie Hartnett took three shots and two ground balls. 
  • Zenna Carson made seven stops for Guilford.

The Generals will celebrate the program's nine seniors on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against UMW.
