Bishop Shatters Another Milestone in Women's Lacrosse Win Over Lynchburg

LEXINGTON, Va. - The seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team dominated the University of Lynchburg, 23-2, on Saturday afternoon's Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.

The Generals (12-3, 8-0 ODAC) secured the top seed for the 2024 ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament with the victory over the Hornets (9-7, 5-3).

Senior Hanna Bishop surpassed another career milestone with her 200th goal coming in at 1:25 on the clock in the first quarter. With her two goals on Saturday, the Bronxville, N.Y. native became the first lacrosse player in Washington and Lee lacrosse history, men's or women's, to find the back of the net 200 times. The co-captain surpassed A.J. Witherell '19, the W&L men's lacrosse scoring record holder of 191 career goals, and 2004 graduate, Kelly Taffe's 182 marks earlier this season.

Bishop, who only started half of the 14 contests played during the 2021 and CoVID-shortened season, needed just 71 games to exceed the two centuries mark. The attacker averages over 3.7 points per contest through her career and 4.1 points per game this season. Bishop owns both the career goals and points program records with 201 tallies and 269 points after the game against LYN.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sydney Dumas stopped the streak with an unassisted goal for the Hornets, a drive into the center of the 8-meter fan, with 7:06 left in the opening stanza.
  • From there, the Blue and White racked up 12 more unanswered tallies well into the third period.
  • During the streak, with 3:20 left to play in the first quarter, Walker McKnight found the back of the net. The senior scored off an unassisted effort to push the game into running clock territory with W&L up 11-1.
  • In the third quarter, Lynchburg scored their second goal of the game. Mya Hausauer registered a player-up tally with 4:41 left to play in the third quarter.
  • The final stanza concluded with a Brianna Benoit goal and an unassisted mark for Jillian Gangaram, the rookie's first collegiate goal.
