No. 24 Captains Sink No. 7 Women's Lacrosse

LEXINGTON, Va. - The No. 24 Christopher Newport University Captains upended the seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team, 12-10, in Wednesday night's non-conference matchup.

The Generals (1-1) and Captains (1-0) were all knotted up at 3-3 with 7:54 left in the first half and the Generals were unable to equalize and overcome a 4-0 CNU run that spanned until 73 seconds left in the half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • CNU struck first on a free-position goal from Syd Guidi at the 8:41 mark before back-to-back W&L tallies from Walker McKnight and Julia Thomson
  • Thomson opened up the second quarter with a free-position goal to take a 3-2 lead at 11:49.
  • CNU responded with three consecutive scores from the eight-meter and a Brookelyn Morrson goal from Sloane McDonald at 1:13 for a 6-3 advantage.

  • The Generals outscored CNU 3-2 in the third stanza and headed into the final quarter trailing by just one score. Hanna Bishop's free position tally was at the 3:37 mark to bring the score to 8-7 in favor of the visitors.
