SALEM, Va. - The No. 2 Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team downed No. 18 Roanoke 17-7 on Wednesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.
The Generals (11-1, 4-0 ODAC) remained perfect in conference play thanks to an eight-goal run that spanned from the second to third quarter.
The Blue and White took an early 2-0 lead before Grace Koutouzis scored three straight goals for the Maroons (8-2, 2-1). The home team held the 3-2 advantage for nearly seven minutes until a
Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) to
Shannon Timoney (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) tally started the flurry of Generals' goals.
Lily Blair broke up what would have been a 14-0 run at the 6:58 mark in the third period for Roanoke's fourth tally.
In the midst of the next scoring spurt for W&L, a 6-0 run,
Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Harriton) found
Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) for the 10-goal lead with 1:46 left to play in the third and brought the score to 14-4 in favor of W&L.
Schwab led the Blue and White in scoring with five points off three goals and two assists. Bishop and Lisovicz racked up four points each; Bishop tallied four goals and Lisovicz found the back of the net once and dished out three assists. Timoney recorded her third hat trick of the season and scooped up a pair of groundballs and recorded a caused turnover.
In the midfield, sophomore
Cat Caples (Reistertown, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls) grabbed eight draw controls, a career high.
Defensively,
Caroline Wise (Charlotte, N.C. / Myers Park) collected four ground balls and locked down Blair; Wise and the defense held the 2022 All-American to just one goal and one assist.
Junior Stefani Chiguluri (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) recorded her first career start and made six stops. With Chiguluri in the cage for all 60 minutes of the contest, the Generals completed 17-of-18 clear attempts.
W&L outshot RC 27-20 and put 24 of those attempts on frame and limited turnovers to just eight all evening.
The Blue and White will pause competition for finals week and resume action on Saturday, April 15 at 2 p.m. against Virginia Wesleyan University for an ODAC contest on Watt field.
