No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Tabbed Top Seed with 21-2 Win Over Bridgewater

LEXINGTON, Va. - The No. 2 Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team posted the program's ninth consecutive unbeaten ODAC regular season after a 21-2 win over Bridgewater on Wednesday night.

The Generals (15-1, 8-0 ODAC) rattled off 17 unanswered goals, 11 of which were in the opening stanza, to defeat the Eagles (9-8, 4-4) handedly. The Blue and White held BC off the board until the 10:44 mark in the third quarter when Laura Roberts found the back of the net off a fast break then scored a free position goal on the next Eagles' possession.

After the two BC tallies, W&L went on a 4-0 run during the final quarter. The home team had 16 different players score points and juniors Walker McKnight (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) and Julia Thomson (Larchmont, N.Y. / Hackley) led the way with three goals each.

Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville), Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Harriton), Shannon Timoney (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) and Sophie Edwards (San Francisco, Calif. / St. Ignatius College Prep) all tallied a pair of scores. Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J. / Madison), Cat Caples (Reistertown, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls), Caroline Foster (Princeton, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School), Alex Petras (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset), Betty Boatwright (District of Columbia / Georgetown Visitation), Tati Monteleone (New York, N.Y. / Hackley) and Emma Marsh (Millersville, Md. / Severna Park) rounded out the goal-scorers with one each.

The Generals posted eight assists with Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) and Bishop both recorded a pair. Mcknight, Schwab, Claire Horner (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's) and Eugenie Rovegno (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) all dished out one assist to make up the 16 point-scorers.

The Blue and White dominated every facet of the game; W&L outshot BC 45-5 and owned a 29-11 advantage in ground balls, caused 15 of the 20 turnovers comitted by the Eagles, and grabbed 21 of 26 draw controls.  The Generals' transition offense was a perfect 9-for-9 on clearing attempts and held BC's successful clears to just 5-of-17.

Lisovicz matched her career-high of four caused turnovers which bumped her into the program's top-10 list with 73 career caused turnovers.

Rovegno grabbed a game-best five draw controls; Caples and Timoney added four and three draw controls to their stat lines, respectively.

With an unblemished conference record, the Generals were awarded their ninth straight postseason as the top seed in the ODAC tournament and a bye until the semifinals matchup on Friday, May 5. W&L will take on the winner of the quarterfinals between the University of Lynchburg vs Virginia Wesleyan/Randolph-Macon.

Before the Generals host the ODAC post-season, W&L will celebrate the program's five seniors on Saturday, April 29 in a non-conference contest against Denison University at noon. Prior to the first draw, the team will recognize the Class of 2023: Allie Schwab, Caroline Wise, Jenny Lisovicz, Tati Monteleone and Sam Van Belle for their contributions to W&L on and off the field.
