Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Downs Denison on Senior Day, 14-4

LEXINGTON, Va. - The second-ranked Washington and Lee University's women's lacrosse squad celebrated senior day with a 14-4 win over Denison university on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (16-1) wrapped up the regular season by scoring nine consecutive goals against the Big Red (7-10) to open up the non-conference contest.

Prior to the contest, the Blue and White celebrated the program's five seniors: Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Harriton), Caroline Wise (CHarlotte, N.C. / Myers Park), Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge), Tati Monteleone (New York, N.Y. / Hackley) and Sam Van Belle (Lebanon, N.J. / Hunterdon) for their contributions to W&L on and off the field. Together, the class of 2023 has led the Generals to a 54-6 record so far, three undefeated ODAC Regular seasons, two conference championship titles and a pair of NCAA postseason appearances so far which includes an Elite-8 finish as juniors.

DU and W&L traded scoreless possessions until the 7:28 mark in the opening stanza when junior Walker McKnight (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) put the Blue and White on the scoreboard with an unassisted tally. Nearly 30 seconds later, Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J. / Madison) found Schwab for the first of her four scores on the day.

Claire Horner (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's) then followed up with a rare player-down goal before Alex Petras (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) added W&L's 4-0 mark. With two seconds left in the first quarter, Horner was awarded a free position attempt and converted to tally the game-winner.

The Generals benefited from a 4-1 advantage inside the draw circle to command the lead early then
added four goals in the second, three in the third and a pair in the final quarter.

The defensive unit limited Denison's opportunities all day and allowed just 17 shots to get off for the visitors and 13 of those were on frame. Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa. / Mercersburg), who completed the regular season with the lowest goals-against-average in the ODAC, played all 60 minutes in the cage and made nine stops. DU found the back of the net on one occasion in the second and third quarters and scored a pair of goals in the final stanza. Three of the visitors' scores were off of free position opportunities.

Defensively, WLU caused 11 turnovers, collected 21 ground balls and were successful on all 20 clearing attempts, perfect for the sixth time this season. Off four yellow cards, W&L was able to prevent any damage and held the Big Red scoreless in each player-down situation. For the second time on Saturday, Lisovicz was able to score an unassisted tally with a General in the penalty box.

On the offensive end, Schwab led all scorers with four goals, McKnight, Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville), Petras and Horner all added a pair of scores. Lisovicz and Shannon Timoney (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) both found the back of the net once to round out the scoring. Only three of W&L's goals were assisted efforts, one each from Taylor, Julia Thomson (Larchmon, N.Y. / Hackley), and Sophie Edwards (San Francisco, Calif. / St. Ignatius College Prep).

The Generals next opponent for the ODAC Semifinals, has yet to be determined but the game will take place on Friday, May 5 at a time to be determined.
