LEXINGTON, Va. - The No. 2 Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team notched another ODAC win on Wednesday night with an 18-4 victory over visiting Randolph-Macon College.
Twelve consecutive goals from the Generals (13-1, 6-0 ODAC) before conceding back-to-back Yellow Jackets (8-3, 3-3) goals in the second stanza allowed W&L to remain perfect in conference play.
The two teams traded scoreless opening possessions before the Blue and White offense took control. Seniors
Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Harriton) and
Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) connected for the first tally of the night at 12:34.
Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J. / Madison) scored an unassisted goal on the next possession, thirty seconds later. By the 11 minute mark, the Generals went up 4-0 with two more goals, one for Schwab from
Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) and
Shannon Timoney (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) followed with a free position score.
At 8:36 Schwab then found Taylor for the fifth goal of the night, which proved to be the game-winner. The Generals' 18 goals were scattered among nine players; Taylor ended the evening with a hat trick, as did Bishop. Half of the Blue and White goals came off assisted efforts; both Bishop and Schwab notched three assists each.
The pair crossed offensive milestones in tonight's win. Schwab, who entered into the contest with 198 career points, crossed the 200 career mark with five points off of her two tallies and three assists. Bishop continues to move her way up the leader board with 147 career goals; the junior, who is averaging an even 3.0 goals per game, is now tied with Margaret Klein '14 for the fourth-most goals in program history.
The Yellow Jackets were able to find the back of the net twice in the second and third frames. Logan Schweiger, Rianna Lowery, Emma Moxham and Annie Bartley all had scores for R-MC, three of which were free position goals.
W&L outshot R-MC 39-11 and put 33 of those attempts on target. Yellow Jackets' keeper, Emma Taylor, made 15 stops and limited the damage for the visitors.
The Generals won the ground ball and draw control battle 17-9 and 21-4, respectively. Timoney led with nine draw controls and
Eugenie Rovegno (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) added seven,
Cat Caples (Reistertown, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls) won four to herself. Rovegno now sits in the program's top-5 list for career draw controls with 154 across just two seasons. Rovegno added three ground balls in the win.
The Blue and White continue ODAC play on Saturday, April 22, at the University of Lynchburg for a 4 p.m. first draw.
