Bishop Tallies Eight Goals in 19-11 Women's Lacrosse Win at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The No. 2 Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team earned a 19-11 non-conference victory over the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) tallied the first four goals for the Blue and White (8-0) and assisted their fifth to put the team ahead of the Eagles (6-4) 7-3 after the first stanza.

W&L and UMW traded the first four scores of the afternoon but went on a 4-0 run in the middle of the first and followed with a 6-0 run in the second for a nine-point and 13-4 lead at the break.

After halftime, the Eagles came back onto the field with some offensive adjustments and were able to register six goals during the last thirty minutes of play which marked the first time W&L had conceded a double-digit score to an opponent during the current season.

Eight Generals collected points and four scored on multiple occasions: Bishop, Walker McKnight (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall), Shannon Timoney (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) and Ginny Taylor (Madison, N.J. / Madison)

Bishop found the back of the net eight times off of eight shots for a perfect 100 percent and added an assist to mark nine points. Her eight scores and nine points surpassed her previous career-highs of six points off of six goals achieved against Roanoke in the 2022 ODAC Championship game.

McKnight and Timoney tallied hat tricks and Taylor scored two goals with an assist for three points, senior Jenny Lisovicz had three points on the reversed scoreline. Claire Horner (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's) and Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Harriton) added a goal each and Sophie Edwards (San Francisco, Calif. / St. Ignatius College Prep) dished out an assist to round out the scoring.

For the home team, Maya Koebke and Erin Steinberg registered four goals each.

Eugenie Rovegno (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) collected ten draw controls; W&L had a slight edge over UMW 19-14 on the circle.

The Generals defense forced 10 of the Eagles' 15 turnovers, Sam Van Belle (Lebanon, N.J. / North Hunterdon) caused a game-high three of those. Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa. / Mercersburg) made six stops in the full sixty minutes of action and the transition game was successful on eight of nine clear attempts.

The Generals completed their road stand and will play on Watt Field for the first time in March this Saturday the 25th against No. 10 York College (Pa.) for the sixth IWLCA Top-25 matchup of the season and fifth in the Top-10. First draw is slated for noon.
