Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Doubles up on the Cards, 12-6, for Fourth Top-25 Matchup Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The IWLCA No. 4 Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team downed No. 21 Catholic University of America, 12-6, in a non-conference and Top-25 matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Catholic (2-4) went on the scoreboard first but W&L (6-0) responded with six consecutive goals, four in the first quarter, to go ahead for good and pick up the Generals' sixth straight win.

After the first half, the Blue and White owned a 7-3 lead and went on to outscore the Cardinals 5-3 in the second half. Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) and Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) each had a hat trick and Lisovicz added a pair of assists for five points to lead all scorers. First-year Sophie Edwards (San Francisco, Calif. / St. Ignatius College Prep) added two tallies and the remaining four goals were split between Walker McKnight (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall), Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Harriton), Shannon Timoney (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) and Alex Petras (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset).

Shwab dished out three of the squad's eight assists for four total points.

On the circle, W&L dominated and had a 14-7 draw advantage. Timoney and Cat Caples (Reistertown, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls) grabbed four each and McKnight and Eugenie Rovegno (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) evenly split the remaining six.

Both teams tallied 17 turnovers with the Generals forcing seven of the Cards' turnovers. On the defensive end, Rovegno caused four of those CUA turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.

WLU outshot CUA 25-19 and put 21 shots on goal. In the cage, Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa. / Mercersburg) made four stops on her 19 shots faced to pick up her sixth win of the season. Kranich led the Generals to a perfect 19-for-19 in successful clears.

The Generals don't have a midweek game for the second week in a row and will take the field in Sparks, Md. on March 18 against the 2022 NCAA runner-ups and IWLCA second-ranked Tufts University.
