LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's basketball team downed Shenandoah University 82-50 in a dominant conference matchup on Wednesday evening in Holekamp Gym.
The Generals (10-6, 3-4 ODAC) led from start to finish after the squad opened up the night by converting the first four possessions into lights on the scoreboard.
Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Conn. / Newtown) dished out a pair of assists to Drew Harrell (Collingswood, N.J. / Paul VI) and Sam Wise (Winchester, Va. / Handley) for buckets in the paint in the first two trips down the court. Then, Jack d'Entremont (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) drained a triple and pushed a 7-0 lead onto the Hornets (3-11, 6-5) early.
The contests' longest run, the Blue and White's 9-0 start, was capped at the 16:47 mark by Harrell's fast break field goal inside the lane. Binwi Bihai put SU on the board on the next possession with a pair of free throws.
The offense was firing on all cylinders in the opening half, W&L shot 71 percent (22-of-31) from the floor and led 48-21 at the conclusion of the stanza. The team finished the night 35-of-55 for 63.6 percent and knocked down seven of their 14 attempts from behind the arc.
The Generals led by as many as 36 points (11:17 in the second half) and outscored the visitors 34-29 in the second frame.
All 15 players who dressed for the Blue and White saw action on the court and no one played longer than more than 22:40. Eleven individuals recorded points in the ODAC contest and the Generals' bench combined for 23 points. WLU was a force to be reckoned with under the basket as the home team outscored SU 50-12 inside the paint alongside nine second-chance points.
DiSibio led all scorers with 21 points in a team-high 22:40 court time with four assists. D'Entremont recorded a double-double, he added 17 with 11 rebounds and was a perfect 2-for-2 from long range.
Harrell continued his defensive hot-streak with three steals and he, along with Richie Manigault (Stewartsville, N.J. / Phillipsburg), tacked on nine points each.
First-Year Ben Jones (Austin, Texas / St. Stephens Episcopal) swatted a pair of Shenandoah shots off target, recorded an assist, grabbed three rebounds and hit a field goal in 11:29, tonight was his fifth career appearance.
For the visitors, Malik Jordan scored a team-high 11 points and Brantley Springer was perfect from the field, he shot 3-for-3 which included a pair of three-pointers. WLU owned a 45-34 advantage on the boards and recorded 14 assists compared to Shenandoah's seven.
The Generals will prepare to travel to Virginia Wesleyan University at 4:30 on Saturday, January 14 to take on the Marlins in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.
