Men's Basketball Routs Marlins on the Road, 65-48

NORFOLK, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's basketball team earned a road victory, 65-48 over Virginia Wesleyan, on Saturday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.

The contest was all tied up at 27 at the end over the opening stanza. After the break, the Generals (11-6, 4-4 ODAC) defense stifled the Marlins (12-4, 4-4) and limited the home team to just 10 points in 13:30 to start the second half to earn the first W&L victory at Virginia Wesleyan since December 2, 2001.

Saturday night's win is the program's lone victory at TowneBank Arena in the Jane P. Batten Student Center, the building was under construction during the 2001-02 season.

During the Generals' run, W&L drained 12-of-18 field goals and was 4-of-6 from behind the arc. The Blue and White tallied 30 points during the stint, half of which came from junior forward Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Conn. / Newtown).

VWU found themselves in a cold spell they could not recover from. The Marlins hit on just one of six three-pointers and shot 3-of-16 from the floor with five turnovers to just one steal.

The home team finally broke into double-digit second half scoring at the 6:51 mark, an Amarion Wilson free throw. The Generals led 57-37 and the 20-point deficit was too much for the Marlins.

The first half saw nine ties and a pair of lead changes. At 10:37 in the opening period VWU owned a six point lead, their largest of the night at 14-8. At 4:31 the home team's advantage all but vanished 23-21 as the two squads closed out the half by trading buckets, notched at 27 as time expired.

Thirteen Generals saw action on the court and seven of those players recorded makes. DiSibio led the Blue and White in scoring with a game-best 27 points.

The junior forward grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out three assists. Jack d'Entremont (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Radnor) and Drew Harrell (Collingswood, N.J. / Paul VI) backed up their classmate with nine points each.

Collectively, W&L finished with 44.4 percent from the field(24-of-54), 31.6 percent from long distance (6-of-19), and 73.3 percent from the charity stripe (11-of-15).

The Blue and White out-rebounded the Marlins 42-26, 10 offensive boards for W&L converted into 15 second chance points.

The Generals travel to Ferrum College on Wednesday and will tip off at 7 p.m.
