Blair, Haller earn All-ODAC Second Team recognition

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2022 all-conference baseball teams on Friday and Washington and Lee first-year Evan Blair (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) and sophomore Thomas Haller (Round Hill, Va. / Woodgrove) each garnered a second team nod.

Earning his first all-conference citation, Blair was W&L's most commonly used reliever in 2022, as he led the pitching staff with 16 appearances out of the bullpen. Blair led the team and ranks fifth in the ODAC with a 2.41 ERA in 41 innings of work, with 51 strikeouts, and he finished with a 4-3 record and one save. Blair's rate of 11.2 strikeouts-per-nine innings also ranks fifth in the ODAC this season, and he limited opposing batters to a .247 average.

Blair allowed one or fewer earned runs in 13 of his 16 appearances, seven of which featured him tossing multiple innings. The sophomore right-hander earned two of his wins in March, when he limited then-No. 18 Shenandoah to one run on four hits in five innings, before he held Eastern Mennonite to no runs on one hit in 5.1 frames in an 11-10 comeback victory.

Haller also makes his first All-ODAC appearance after he led the Generals in innings (71.0) and strikeouts (68) this season, while posting a 5-4 record and a 3.80 earned-run average. His 71 strikeouts currently rank fourth in the ODAC, while his 68 strikeouts are the fifth most in the league. Haller made 12 appearances on the mound this season, all starts, and he pitched two complete games, both of which came in back-to-back home starts in April.

Haller's season was highlighted in one of his complete games, when he struck out a program-record 17 batters to lead the Generals to a 12-2 win over Guilford on April 2. From March 19 to April 30, Haller put together a string of six straight starts of five or more innings, five or more strikeouts and two earned runs or fewer.

The Generals finished the 2022 season with a 20-16 overall record, and they earned the No. 4 seed in the ODAC Tournament after producing a 12-8 conference record.
