FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2021-22 all-conference teams and award winners on Wednesday, and senior guard
Megan Horn (Basking Ridge, N.J./The Pingry School) and Head Coach
Christine Clancy led the way for Washington and Lee as the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
In addition to her Player of the Year honor, Horn was named to the All-ODAC First Team. Senior guard
Jordan Diehl (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) was selected to the second team and sophomore guard
Hanna Malik (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) rounded out the W&L honorees with a third team nod.
Horn is averaging a career-high 13.5 points per game this season, to go along with averages of 7.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.8 steals. Her 7.3 rebounds per game are also a career high and it ranks seventh in the ODAC, while her assist average is ranked third and her scoring average is good for fourth-best in the league. Horn has three double-doubles this season and she also finished a pair of games within three rebounds and assists of a triple-double.
This marks Horn's third overall All-ODAC citation, including her second straight first team accolade, and she is the first W&L player to be named the Player of the Year since 2002 when Jessica Mentz '02 earned the honor.
In her 10th season at the helm of the W&L women's basketball program, Clancy earns her first ODAC Coach of the Year award after guiding the Generals through their best regular season in program history. The Generals finished with a 16-2 ODAC mark to break the program record for most ODAC wins in a season set in 2019-20 (15). W&L also enters the ODAC Tournament this week with a 19-5 (.792) overall record, which ties the 2018-19 and 2010-11 teams for most overall wins in a season. In addition, the 19 wins are a program record for most regular season wins, and the Generals will finish the 2021-22 season with the highest winning percentage in program history, breaking the mark set in 2010-11 (.704).
Earlier this season, Clancy surpassed
Mandy King for the most coaching wins in program history (124), and she now owns a record of 138-104 (.570) at W&L. Clancy is the first coach in program history to earn the ODAC Coach of the Year award.
Diehl earns her first All-ODAC accolade with averages of 8.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game across W&L's 24 games played this season. Diehl leads the Generals in both rebounding average and total rebounds (186), while ranking fifth in the ODAC in both categories. Diehl has shot a career-high 48.3 percent from the field this season, which is also fifth in the ODAC.
Malik is also a first-time All-ODAC honoree with her third team selection, after averaging 12.0 points per game in 24 games so far this season. Malik has shot 38.6 percent from beyond the arc, the second-best mark in the ODAC, but she leads the conference in three-pointers made per game (3.0) and overall (71). Her 71 triples are currently the fourth-most in a season in program history, and she needs just five more to break the program's single-season record set by Meg Ingram '12 in 2008-09.
