FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2022 Women's Swimming all-conference teams and the 25th-ranked Generals had 16 swimmers earn citations, including nine on the first team. Additionally, W&L won all four major awards handed out by the conference.
Sophomore
Brynn Martinson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) and senior
Claudia Barnett (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) highlighted the All-ODAC honorees, as Martinson earned both the Swimmer and Rookie of the Meet awards, while Barnett was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year. Head Coach
Kami Gardner earned the Women's Coach of the Year award for the eighth time in her 15 seasons at W&L.
Martinson and Barnett were joined on the All-ODAC First Team by seniors
Caroline Baber (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) and
Turner Bobbitt (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), juniors
Jillian Cantrell (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Preparatory School) and
Sara Gaston (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), sophomore
Sophia Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and first-years
Katharine Alsobrook (Lawrenceville, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian School) and
Haley Robinson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg).
The second team was made up of junior
Sally Ennis (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School), sophomores
Pari Ahmadi (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and
Allyssa Utecht (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and first-year
Bella Tarbet (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton). Senior
Erika Ehret (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) and first-years
Anna Marie Harding (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) and
Faith Sconing (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) rounded out the All-ODAC honorees by making the third team.
Martinson was part of seven wins over the weekend, as she scored the most points by any individual women's swimmer to earn both the Swimmer and Rookie of the Meet awards. She won the 50 free (23.77), 100 free (51.27) and 200 free (1:54.06), with her time in the 100 free setting new program, meet and ODAC records, while also going as an NCAA B-cut time. Martinson was also part of the winning 200 (1:34.66) and 400 free relays (3:28.02) and the 200 (1:44.73) and 400 medley relays (3:51.82). She swam a program-record time of 23.60 in her 50-yard split of the 200 free relay, while the 200 medley and 400 free relays set NCAA B-cut times.
Barnett earns her third All-ODAC citation and second first team honor after she aided the 200 and 400 free relays in their wins, and she also helped the 800 free relay (7:42.41) to a win on the first night of the meet. Individually, Barnett placed second in the 100 free (52.58) and third in both the 50 free (24.17); 3rd 200 free (1:55.45).
Baber adds her third All-ODAC First Team citation after she swam on the winning 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. She also won the 100 fly (57.23) and placed second in the 200 IM (2:07.11) and 200 breast (2:23.45). In the preliminary race, Baber swam an NCAA B-cut time of 2:06.28 in the 200 IM.
Bobbitt collects her third All-ODAC citation and the second first team honor of her career after she was part of the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay wins. Individually, Bobbitt placed second in the 100 fly (57.30) and third in the 100 free (52.95). Cantrell earns her second First Team All-ODAC accolade after she won the 200 fly in a time of 2:08.70. She also added a third-place effort in the 100 fly (57.38) and a sixth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:11.65).
Gaston, the 2020 Rookie of the Meet and an All-ODAC First Team selection, was on the winning 800 free relay and 200 medley relay, and she added a win in the 200 back with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:02.84. Gaston added a second-place finish in the 100 back (57.51) and a fifth-place performance in the 500 free (5:14.98).
Rollo contributed six total wins across the seven events in which she competed. She was on the winning 800 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 free relay and 400 medley relay, and she also won the 200 IM (2:05.44) and 100 back (57.33). Rollo's mark of 2:05.44 went down as a new meet record and it was also an NCAA B-cut time. Rollo also was the runner-up in the 200 back (2:04.46).
Alsobrook and Robinson round out the first team swimmers, as Alsobrook won the 1650 free (17:36.85) and Robinson placed second in the 400 IM (4:37.09), third in the 200 IM (2:09.98) and fifth in the 200 fly (2:12.27).
After earning third team honors as a first-year, Ennis placed on the All-ODAC Second Team after she finished third in the 100 back (58.03) and seventh in the 200 back (2:10.00). Ahmadi claims her first All-ODAC citation with a fourth-place finish in the 500 free (5:11.06) and the 1650 free (18:19.92), in addition to a seventh-place effort in the 200 free (1:59.12).
Utecht is also a first-time All-ODAC selection, as she swam on the winning 800 free relay and added finishes of third in the 500 free (5:08.26), fourth in the 200 free (1:55.74) and fifth in the 100 free (53.52). Tarbet concludes the second team honorees as she finished fourth in the 200 fly (2:11.15), fifth in the 100 fly (59.16) and eighth in the 50 free (24.59).
Ehret earned her second All-ODAC citation after she finished sixth in the 400 IM (4:46.67). Harding and Sconing round out W&L's All-ODAC swimmers as first-time honorees each. Harding placed sixth in the 200 fly (2:13.06) and seventh in the 400 IM (4:48.02), while Sconing came in fifth in the 200 free (1:58.70) and sixth in the 50 free (24.53) and 100 free (53.58).
The Generals claimed the 2022 ODAC championship after compiling 957 points at the conference meet. It was their 14th in the last 15 years and 27th in the last 29.
