Pins named ODAC Coach of the Year, eight Generals selected to All-Conference teams

11/9/2022 2:00:00 PM

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2022 Women's Soccer All-Conference teams and award winners on Wednesday and Washington and Lee head coach Tiffany Pins led the way for the Generals with Coach of the Year honors.

Seniors Brenna Wehner (Crosswicks, N.J. / The Hun School of Princeton), Lindsay White (Greenville, S.C. / JL Mann) and Grace Wielechowski (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) all claimed All-ODAC First Team selections, while juniors Louisa Bynum (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence Day School), Mady Laudisi (Middletown, N.J. / Middletown-South) and Sydney Smith (Damascus, Md. / Damascus) and sophomore Ann Riley Huber (Atlanta, Ga. / Holy Innocents' Episcopal) were named to the second team. First-year Sarah Zimmerman (Cincinnati, Ohio / Cincinnati Country Day) rounded out the W&L honorees with a third team nod.

In her first season at the helm of the W&L women's soccer program, Pins has made an immediate impact by leading the Generals to a 14-1-5 overall record so far this season. The team went undefeated across its first 19 contests of the campaign, establishing a new program record for longest unbeaten start to a season, while the streak also went down as the second-longest overall undefeated run in program history. Pins has also helped the team to its seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2016.

Wehner collects her second career All-ODAC citation and makes her first appearance on the first team in 2022, serving as a key piece for the W&L backline that is allowing a 0.60 goals-against average through 20 games this season. Wehner has also contributed to the team posting 11 shutouts on the season, and she also has eight points on the offensive end on three goals and two assists.

White is currently second among Generals in goals (7), assists (5) and points this season (19), as she earns her second First Team All-ODAC award of her career. White tallied a season-high five points on two goals and an assist in just seven minutes played against Hollins on October 9, and she has recorded at least one point in eight contests this season. One of W&L's top scoring options throughout her career, White will go into this weekend with 50 career points on 20 goals and 10 assists in 50 games played.

Wielechowski appears on the all-conference first team for the second consecutive season, as she leads W&L in goals (8), assists (8) and points (24). Her assist total also leads the ODAC, while her point total is currently good for seventh highest in the league. Wielechowski's strong play has vaulted her into the program's Top 10 list for career points (70), as she just recently passed Katherine Rush '15 for 10th place with an assist against Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Semifinals.

Bynum makes her second straight All-ODAC Second Team with two points on a goal this season. Her score came in a road win, 3-0, at Southern Virginia on September 21. Bynum has started and appeared in 19 games this season on the defense and has been another key component for the defensive unit that has allowed fewer than two goals in 18 of the team's 20 games this season.

Laudisi claims her first career all-conference citation as a junior and has started every game for the Generals this season. Defensively, Laudisi has helped the W&L backline limit opponents to just 12 goals on the year. On the offensive side, Laudisi has two points this season on one goal, which came in a 3-0 road win at Eastern Mennonite on October 8.

In her first year as the every-game starting goalkeeper, Smith has shined with a 0.65 goals-against average across 1,667:42 in net. Smith has made 47 saves for a 0.797 save percentage, and she currently leads the ODAC in minutes played, is tied for the league high in shutouts and is third in goals-against average. During the season, Smith put together a consecutive shutout minutes streak of 325:53, which spanned six games. Smith also earned ODAC Player of the Week honors during that stretch, following a pair of five-save shutouts against Roanoke (10/12) and then 18th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan (10/15).

Huber makes her first appearance on the All-ODAC list, and she's played in every game for the Blue and White this season with 18 starts. She has produced eight points on three goals and two assists this year, and Huber has at least one point in five contests on the season. All three of her goals have come in wins, including a long-distance strike against Berry on September 18 that helped the Generals to a 2-1 win over the Vikings.

Zimmerman marks the first W&L first-year to be named to an All-ODAC team during a traditional fall season since White and Wehner did so in 2019. In her first season in the Blue and White, Zimmerman has totaled 10 points on four goals and two assists, including key goals in a 2-1 win over Bridgewater on October 19 and a 2-0 win over Roanoke in the ODAC Quarterfinals on November 1.

W&L's eight all-conference honorees are tied for the third most in a season in program history, trailing just the 2019 and 2006 teams which had nine both years. Pins' Coach of the Year award is also the seventh to be bestowed upon a W&L head coach and first since 2016. To view the complete list of All-ODAC teams and award winners, click here.

The Generals will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2016 on Saturday, and they will face Centre at 3:30 pm on the campus of Emory University.
