Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's basketball team eclipsed the triple-digit mark for the first time in over four years to top Hollins, 101-51, on Wednesday evening.
The Generals extend their program-record winning streak to 10 games with the win, and move to 15-6 overall and 12-2 in the ODAC. Hollins falls to 10-10 overall and 5-9 in conference with the loss.
W&L opened the game on a 15-3 run, capped off on a three from senior guard
Taylor Casey (Brentwood, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy), before ending the quarter ahead, 27-8. Hollins stayed in the game with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Generals, 20-16, in the frame, to pull to 15 points before the half.
The Generals took off in the third quarter, scoring 33 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and connected on 13-of-16 foul shots. The 33 points tied a program record for most points scored in a quarter since the NCAA moved to a four-quarter format for the 2015-16 season.
The margin continued to increase in the fourth, as W&L used a 25-5 fourth-quarter edge to finish the second half with 58 points and yield the final margin. The 50-point margin of victory also marked the largest since the Generals defeated Gallaudet, 96-46, on January 5 of last season.
Senior forward
Andy Smithey (Charlotte, N.C./Saint Mary's School) was the game's high scorer at 18 points, and she totaled 15 points in the third quarter alone. Smithey added five rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard
Jordan Diehl (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) logged her second career double-double with an 11-point, 15-rebound effort, the second-most rebounds in a game this season (18).

Kate Groninger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) contributed 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting and junior guard
Erin Hughes (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School) added 12 points, seven boards and two assists. First-year forwards
Kathryn Vandiver (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) and
Lauren Fowler (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) provided solid minutes off the bench, scoring 8 points in 13 minutes and seven points in 10 minutes, respectively.
For Hollins, sophomore guard Kayla Surles led the way with 15 points, making five triples in the contest, and dished out four assists. First-year guards Serena Lytton and Lenah Clements added 11 points each and combined for seven rebounds.
For the game, the Generals shot 52.2 percent (36-69) from the floor, the first time shooting 50 percent or better in a game since February 5, 2019, and the highest single-game percentage since February 17, 2016, at Shenandoah (54.2-percent). W&L also went 20-of-27 at the free throw line, marking the fifth game of the season with 20 or more made free throws.
Hollins shot 33.3 percent (20-60) in the game, including 26.9 percent (7-26) from long range and 50 percent (4-8) from the free throw line.
W&L held advantages in the game in points off turnovers (20-10), second-chance points (28-2), bench points (42-12), points in the paint (48-20) and fast break points (11-4).
The Generals will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Randolph-Macon for a 4:30 pm ODAC contest.
