Meyer Totals Seven Goals to Lead No. 3 Generals Past WildCats, 24-1

LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore attacker Alex Meyer (Pelham, N.Y./Hackley School) registered a career-high seven goals to go with one assist to lead the third-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 24-1 victory over Randolph on Tuesday at Watt Field in the ODAC opener for both teams.

The Generals (6-2, 1-0 ODAC) registered the first 13 goals of the contest in the opening 15 minutes of the first half. During the initial spurt, Meyer tallied three goals, sophomore midfielder Kit McNiff (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) recorded three goals and senior attacker Maddy Graves (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) had two goals and two assists.

Also during the run, junior attacker Collette Murray (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) had a goal and two assists and first-year midfielder Maggie Frankel (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) notched one goal and three assists.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Perry scored the lone goal for the WildCats (2-4, 0-1 ODAC) with 12:26 left in the half, but then W&L ended the game with 11 straight goals to secure the victory.

The Blue and White led in shots, 40-2, and ground balls, 20-10. The Generals had 23 draw controls compared to four for Randolph, and the WildCats turned the ball over 18 times, while W&L had 10.

Meyer had a team-high six caused turnovers to go with her point total. Along with Meyer, first-year attacker Janie Stillwell (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) had four goals and three assists. Graves totaled three goals and three assists.

Murray contributed one goal and five assists, and Frankel registered two goals and three assists. First-year attacker Liv Truesdell (New York, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) was the fifth W&L player with a hat trick, recording three goals and a team-high seven draw controls. First-year midfiielder McKenna Edmondson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) had three assists and four draw controls.   

Junior goalkeeper Elliot Gilbert (Bedford, N.Y./Deerfield Academy) played the first 15:11 in cage and made the team's lone save. Senior Ellie Aburn (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and first-years Sam Sunar (Montville, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and Nyla Gavia (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) split the remaining minutes at goalkeeper for W&L. Junior Chrissy Shackleford saw all 60 minutes for the WildCats, stopping 11 shots.

The Generals return to action on Saturday, when they play at seventh-ranked York (Pa.) at 12:00 pm.
