Box Score

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's basketball team used a 20-0 run over the final three minutes of the opening half and the first three minutes of the second on its way to a 91-65 win at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday.

The Generals (12-4, 5-2 ODAC) led, 40-37, with 2:38 left on the clock in the first half, but a layup by sophomore forward Curtis Mitchell (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) and a four-point play by senior guard Devin Kearns (Cibolo, Texas/Samuel Clemens) stretched the by the 17:36 mark of the second half.

Following a turnover by the Tigers (4-9, 1-5 ODAC), Kearns was fouled while making a layup, and then converted the free throw to cap the 20-0 spurt for the Blue and White and extend the W&L lead to 60-37 with 17 minutes left in the game. The Generals held at least a 17-point margin the rest of the way, as they cruised to the 26-point victory.

W&L shot over 50.0 percent from the field for the fourth time this season, hitting 34-of-66 (51.5 percent) of its attempts from the floor. The Generals also made 12-of-29 (41.4 percent) of their shots from long range.

H-SC was held to just 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the field and 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from beyond the arc.

McMillan led the team with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. He ended the game 8-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-4 from long range. Kearns totaled 16 points on 6-of-8 from the field, and had six rebounds and four assists. Lamendola added 10 points and three rebounds.

Junior guard Kevin Quinn totaled a team-best 12 points and five rebounds for the Tigers, and first-year forward Warren Zager added 11 points.

This marked the largest margin of victory for W&L over Hampden-Sydney since a 98-67 win on January 18, 1975, and it was the biggest margin of victory for the Blue and White at H-SC since a 98-53 win on December 4, 1956.

The 12-4 start is the best for the Generals since the program opened the 2008-09 season 12-4.

W&L returns to action on Thursday, when it hosts Lynchburg at 7:00 pm.
