ASHLAND, Va. – The 13th-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team claimed its 15th straight ODAC title with a 5-0 victory over second-seeded Randolph-Macon in the championship match of the conference tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Banks Tennis Center.
The championship is W&L's 27th in the 34 years that the ODAC has awarded a women's tennis championship.
The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. Senior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta) and sophomore Tessa Hill (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) recorded an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles junior Michelle Fleenor (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) and first-year Lauren Hassell (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) won by a score of 8-1, while sophomore Mary Hampton McNeal (Beaufort, S.C. / South Carolina Connections Academy) and first-year Anna Kreynin (Mequon, Wis. / Homestead) claimed No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
In singles action, W&L led in all six matches, but claimed victory with wins at Nos. 2 and 5 singles. Hill registered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and junior Emily Kochard (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
W&L improved to 20-5 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 17-3 overall.
Washington and Lee will now wait to see who it will play in the NCAA Tournament. Selections will be released on Monday.
