FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Junior
Allie Murrell and sophomore
Margarette Berdy highlighted the Washington and Lee women's tennis team's opening-round efforts to kick off the 2026 ITA Southeast Region Championships on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Murrell and Berdy dropped just three games combined to win their Round of 64 matches in the Championship Singles Draw. Murrell posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lily Ganjbaksh (St. Mary's [Md.]), while Berdy won both her sets by 6-1 scores against Jiaxiaoqi Wen (Stevens).
- Juniors Greer Webb and Mary Kate Kahl pushed their opponents hard, but ultimately fell in the opening round. Webb was topped by Gibelle Beaujon (Salisbury) 7-6 (5), 6-1 and Kahl played into a third set against Carolina Dirk (Guilford). Kahl won the first set, 6-3, but Dirk claimed the second, 6-4, before winning the 10-point tiebreaker.
- Sophomore Sarah Ladd and first-year Susanna Whitehead rounded out the Generals in action on Friday, but both fell in straight sets.
UP NEXT:
Murrell and Berdy will lead the way into singles on Saturday, while the Generals will also have four teams in the Championship Doubles draw.
