FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Doubles teams highlighted the second day at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, as the Washington and Lee women's tennis team had three duos win twice each in Championship Doubles.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY 2
- Sophomore Sarah Ladd and first-year Susanna Whitehead advanced through the first round of Championship Doubles, grinding out an 8-7 (6) win over the Dickinson pairing of Jenna Crain and Anabel Romero Gemmell. Ladd and Whitehead then cruised in the Round of 32, 8-0, against Sophia Cahue and Fleur Gaalman of Randolph.
- After getting first-round byes, the teams of Margarette Berdy/Greer Webb and Mary Kate Kahl/Allie Murrell also won comfortably in the Round of 32. Both posted 8-4 victories, with Berdy and Webb defeating a Swarthmore pair and Kahl and Murrell upending a Christopher Newport duo.
- Murrell and Berdy represented the Blue and White in Championship Singles and went 1-1 in the Round of 32. Murrell toughed out a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 1-0 (7) victory against Sarah Sandoval Banuelos (UMW), but then fell in straight sets against top-seeded Sahana Madala (JHU).
- Webb, Ladd and Whitehead got into the singles win column in the Championship Singles Consolation bracket. Webb advanced in the Round of 32 by injury default, while Ladd and Whitehead both recorded 8-0 wins. Whitehead then advanced via injury default in the Round of 16, with Webb and Ladd losing only five games combined. All three will play in the consolation quarterfinals on Sunday.
- Senior Haley Stoltz picked up a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (3) victory in the Blue 1 Round of 16 against Samantha Robertson (CNU) to make into Sunday's quarterfinal round.
- First-year Manavi Bedi and sophomore Lulu Koziol are lined up to play in Sunday's Championship Doubles consolation quarterfinals after getting a pair of walkovers on Saturday.
