Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee baseball team scored a season-high 15 runs on 17 hits on its way to a 15-4 victory at Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday.
Trailing 3-0 after the first, the Generals (15-6, 6-0 ODAC) tallied four runs in the top of the second. Senior third baseman Ryan Weston (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) started the rally with a triple to right, and first-year right fielder Ryan Monson (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) followed with a walk. A wild pitch advanced Monson to second, but the Royals (10-10, 1-5 ODAC) struck out the next two batters.
Senior first baseman Jonny Swenson (Newnan, Ga./Newnan) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and then Weston and Monson scored on an error by the second baseman. Junior center fielder Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School) gave W&L a 4-3 lead on a two-run single to right.
After adding two runs in the fourth, senior designated hitter Anderson Baldy (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) launched a two-run homer to right field in the fifth to stretch the advantage to 8-3. It marked his third home run of the season.
The Royals got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, but Weston recorded an RBI single in the top of the sixth to regain a five-run lead (9-4). The Blue and White put the game away in the top of the eighth with some help from the EMU defense.
With the bases loaded and one out, senior catcher Cory Paton (Ashton, Md./St. Johns College) singled to right to score one (10-4). The ball went under the glove of the right fielder and two more runners came across the plate with Paton ending up at third. Baldy followed with a single up the middle to bring home Paton and push the lead to 13-4.
In the ninth, Ruedisili registered his third homer of the season, and Paton drew a bases-loaded walk to reach the final margin, 15-4.
Junior pitcher Tyler Murphy (Chesapeake, Va./Greenbrier Christian Academy) came in from the bullpen with two outs in the third, and threw the final 6.1 innings of relief to earn the victory (2-0). He gave up just one run on 10 hits. EMU first-year starter Bailey Hall (1-2) took the loss. He allowed six runs (two earned) on eight hits in 3.1 innings.
Weston went 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Baldy was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs, and Ruedisili ended the day 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
This marked the first game the Generals had multiple home runs since April 24, 2014. W&L is 6-0 in the ODAC for the first time since the 2006 season. The last time the Blue and White won its first seven conference games was the 2004 campaign.
The Generals host Lynchburg on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
