Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team defeated 20th-ranked Trinity (Tex.) by a score of 5-4 on Thursday afternoon at the Duchossois Tennis Center.
Trinity posted victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles action. At No. 1 doubles, senior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga.) and sophomore Tessa Hill (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) defeated Marie Lutz and Zoe Kaffen, by a score of 8-2.
Donnelly topped Liza Southwick, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Hill defeated Caroline Kutach, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Fleenor topped Marie Lutz, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
The Tigers claimed No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches to knot the contest at 4-4, but sophomore Mary Hampton McNeal (Beaufort, S.C. / South Carolina Connections Academy) beat Mary Kaffen by a score of 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to secure the 5-4 victory for the Blue and White.
The Generals improve to 10-1 overall with the win and Tigers drop to 8-6 overall with the loss.
W&L returns to action on March 18, when it travels to Mary Washington to face second-ranked Williams at 4:30.
